Understanding the Block Rosary Home Pilgrimage Tradition
The Block Rosary Home Pilgrimage Tradition is a deeply rooted Catholic devotion that emphasizes the importance of family prayer and community support. It involves a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary visiting each family’s home for a period of time (typically, 2 weeks), encouraging them to pray the Rosary daily for their intentions and the community’s needs. It is called “Block Rosary” because in the Philippines, where the majority of Filipinos are Catholic, the Blessed Virgin Mary travels from door to door across the whole neighborhood/block. This tradition fosters common prayer, friendships, and goodwill among neighbors, and it has been associated with numerous miracles and the return of individuals to the Catholic Faith.Â
